This is a network music streamer where new electronics have been retrofitted into a Sony TR-627S radio from 1963. Connect with Bluetooth and/or connect the streamer to your home Wi-Fi network and start streaming. It is not a radio anymore.
Connect the streamer to Bluetooth speakers or Bluetooth headphones, or just hook up some wired speakers as well. Stream music from your apps or attach a USB with some music. You can use your Spotify app as usual for streaming, or you can stream any music available on your iPhone or Android smart phone or music from your PC or Mac or Linux computers.
This is a fully plastic modern design from the early 60’s. It has an exquisite luster green colour and the solid plastic frames the radio. On top an easy-to-grip handle for increased mobility. The frequency scale is translucently clear and has no hazing. In the front there are also three buttons with shiny center metal caps. The big one was the tuning knob and the knob below at right is the on/off button. To the left a symmetrical plastic mesh covers the speaker part of the front and at very the bottom there is a bold shiny rib that stretches out over the whole length. This stylish radio will definitely be a conversation piece in any home.
Retrofitted, the original on/off button is still used for powering on or off. The frequency scale is lit up from behind by a dimmed LED light and it is lit when the streamer is powered. The scale needle can still be moved by the tuning knob even if it is of no use anymore. The USB-port, speaker terminal posts, the mini sized USB memory stick which holds the software, RJ-45 port for LAN and the DC power input are all at the back of the unit.
The radio has been thoroughly cleaned and polished. The plastic is still shiny and looks pretty good. However, the radio definitely shows some wear and tear which its normal for its age, like hair thin scratches and some slight signs of aging of the plastic, but no major issues. There are no cracks The metal face plate around the three buttons to the right has some minor imperfections and some of the printed letters are pretty vague. Overall the radio is in good condition.
