Admiral Argyle model Y3012 from 1961 - Network Music Streamer

This is a network music streamer where new electronics have been retrofitted into a Admiral Argyle model Y3012 table top radio from 1961. Connect with Bluetooth and/or connect the streamer to your home Wi-Fi network and start streaming. It is not a radio anymore.

Connect the streamer to Bluetooth speakers or Bluetooth headphones, or just hook up some wired speakers as well. Stream music from your apps or attach a USB with some music. You can use your Spotify app as usual for streaming, or you can stream any music available on your iPhone or Android smart phone or music from your PC or Mac or Linux computers.

The front of this radio is totally dominated by slim vertical lattices which give it a very clean look, typical of the design of the jet age. The elliptic dial further emphasizes the 60’s feel radiating from this cabinet. The frequency digits are large and gold coloured. The plastic tuning wheel with its red lined indicator is combined with a background plate of polished brass. To emphasize the sophisticated design, the words ‘de luxe’ are printed below the scale. To the left is a more discrete looking on/off and volume knob. The colour combination is called coral white. This radio looked good in any modern home of the era.

The original on/off knob is still functional and the tuning control moves smoothly over the station indicator dial. In the back you will find the USB-port, the four speaker terminal posts, the RJ-45 port for LAN, the mini sized USB memory stick which holds the software (not shown in the pictures) and the DC power input. A dimmed orange LED light in the front indicates when the streamer is on.

This radio has been thoroughly cleaned and polished. There are however a few smaller scratches consistent with normal wear and tear. There are no cracks. The upper part of the three lattices just above the dial have some minor imperfections. The round dial is still clear, no hazing. The plastic cabinet looks nice and shiny. Overall the radio is in excellent condition.

Weight: 2.7 kg Dimensions: 38 x 27 x 23 cm

The electronics of the old vintage radio is replaced with Raspberry Pi 4 single board computer, led light, IQaudio Pi-DigiAMP+ class-D amplifier (2 x 35 W) and software, full-HD audio, up to 24-bit/192 kHz playback.

This is not a Bluetooth speaker, it is something better – it is a versatile Bluetooth and Wi-Fi music player. Start streaming . . .
